Surya= Sun , Deep= lamp. Bringing this vision to life!
SuryaDeep is an effort to provide a source of light, as cheap as other conventional electric sources, to the masses. Solar energy and solar technology are powerful tools, which are often limited due to their associated costs. This project aims to find a way to overcome the barrier of cost associated with solar lighting.
India has around 300 million people to date without reliable access to electricity. Although the government is taking much-needed action, there is still a long way to go. Remote underprivileged regions make up a big part of these numbers. A standalone cheap solution, such as SuryaDeep can be one solution to the problem without the need for big capital investments to take electric lines to these areas
As an individual who is actively making environmental choices, I have always been aware of solar energy and wanted to delve deeper into the electronics behind it. Thus during a summer internship project, I combined by interest in electronics with my passion for the environment and came up with this project.
For this project, my primary aim was to bring the costs as low as possible while still using materials with common accessibility. Thus I researched for and bought my materials from local shops only. Researching and making my Solar Charge Controller also gave me exposure to new concepts beyond my school coursework. I learnt about fundamental electronic components such as Integrated Circuits, Breadboards, MOSFETs, etc.
On the left, you can see a picture of SuryaDeep. Witnessing the finished product fills me with immense satisfaction and joy. This project opened the door to the vast and fascinating world of electronics, introducing me to concepts beyond my textbooks, such as ICs, relays, and transistors. This project has helped in fueling my drive to innovate and find creative solutions to problems through electronics. It has also honed my problem-solving skills, enhanced my ability to think critically and analytically, and fostered creativity.
The inspiration for this project came one morning when my house help mentioned how she tripped and fell the previous night due to the lack of a light source. This conversation deeply resonated with me and spurred me into action, leading to the creation of SuryaDeep. This project has underscored the importance of taking meaningful steps and has heightened my excitement to learn and grow in the field of electronics. It has also taught me the value of empathy, the importance of being proactive in addressing the needs of others, and the significance of creativity in finding solutions. I am more determined than ever to continue taking action and creating impactful solutions.
